Ball

Before
1907, the Ball Tower, aka Signal Tower, in the then Marine Police
Headquarters in Tsim
Sha Tsui was used to provide time signals to ships in Victoria
Harbor 1.
Of course now, with all the reclamation
done thus moving the coastline out, it may not even be visible
from the haror. But then, if a ship needs to see the time ball
to set its time and figure out its location longitude, maybe
the captain should just go to Mongkok
or Causeway
Bay and buy a quartz watch!

The main
building at 1881 Heritage, pictured left, was once that
of the Hong Kong Marine Police Headquarters. And for a few years
in 1940s, you could probably see Japanese solders with bayonets
there. Now you might see Japanese tourists. And you can book
a room in the hotel and dream sweet dreams. Hopefully no bayonets.
