Ball Tower at 1881 Heritage, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong KongBefore 1907, the Ball Tower, aka Signal Tower, in the then Marine Police Headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui was used to provide time signals to ships in Victoria Harbor 1. Of course now, with all the reclamation done thus moving the coastline out, it may not even be visible from the haror. But then, if a ship needs to see the time ball to set its time and figure out its location longitude, maybe the captain should just go to Mongkok or Causeway Bay and buy a quartz watch!

The main building at 1881 Heritage, pictured left, was once that of the Hong Kong Marine Police Headquarters. And for a few years in 1940s, you could probably see Japanese solders with bayonets there. Now you might see Japanese tourists. And you can book a room in the hotel and dream sweet dreams.
