North Point

Above: King's Road in North Point with the Island Place shopping center shown on the left.

Hotel IbisNorth Point is a very 'local' district. Located in the eastern half of the Hong Kong Island, it is known for its Swatow population.

It has street markets typical of 'local' Hong Kong. One of which worth mentioning is Chun Yeung Street. With the century-old tram slowly going through it every 15 minutes, it gives one a glimpse of a few decades back.

Also located in North Point is the Sunbeam Theatre where there're Cantonese operas, one of the local colors.

A shop worth mentioning is one that has gain popularity selling 'eggettes' - waffles with egg-shaped individual pieces. If you're in North Point, you should try them out. But there's often a line. (The shop is on Kam Hong Street near King's Road.)

North Point also has a street with a number of interior decoration companies. But the most interesting building has to be Hotel Ibis (shown in the photo above left). By the way, it is a budget hotel with harborview rooms. (2009.4.4)
