Riding
a rustic tram is a good and very inexpensive way to look around Hong Kong Island
(HK$2 / ~ US 25 cents regardless of the detination). But if it is in summer and
you cannot stand the heat, you may want to sitck with buses since trams are not
air-conditioned.
Unlike most other public transportation in Hong Kong, for a tram
you get on in the back, and you pay when you get off in the front. The tram service
has been around for about a century, literally.
The Hong Kong pace of life is fast. And with so many people to service, some things go on as usual while repair is done. Tram service is one of them. Since there are no extra tracks, and repairs cannot be done after hours, tram track maintenance goes on while the trams are running.
